ChromaCalm by MELab

ChromaCalm is an artist-led design research experience from MELab that invites you to explore the power of colour as a tool for emotional awareness and nervous system regulation.

Through a gentle blend of guided meditation, nervous system mapping, and personal colour articulation, ChromaCalm helps you connect with feeling states and express them through colour, in a way that’s unique to you.

Drawing on research from psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), neuroscience and yogic wisdom, this method weaves together mindfulness and colour-based practices shown to support emotional balance and reduce stress.

As part of the experience, you’ll be invited to choose or create your own Living Colour Artefact, a colour-changing object that becomes a visual cue and grounding presence in your daily life.

This isn’t colour theory. This is about discovering your inner language and learning to speak it through colour.

WHAT TO EXPECT

ChromaCalm is a novel, creative experience designed to support nervous system regulation and emotional wellbeing through the intentional use of colour. At the heart of the practice is a guided colour meditation that gently invites your subconscious to reveal the colours it associates with different feeling states, your first step in discovering your unique colour-emotion language.

After the meditation, you’ll explore expressing these colours physically using coloured pastels. We’ll then move into a simple nervous system mapping exercise to locate where these colours, and their associated emotions, show up in your body. This process helps you connect your colours to physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.

From there, you’ll learn how to intentionally work with your colours in everyday life - through what you wear, the spaces you create, or the objects you keep close - to support calm, balance, and emotional clarity. You’ll also explore mindfulness techniques in combination with breathwork practices to help you consciously transition between different feeling states using colour as your guide.

For those who feel called, you can:

  • Create your own Living Colour Artefact in a separate hands-on session using sensory, heat-reactive paint, or

  • Order a bespoke artefact painted in your intentional colours and delivered to your home.

Either way, the focus is on creating space to reconnect with yourself - through stillness, awareness, and the transformative power of working with colour intentionally.
